A Broad Highway Designed for High-Speed Traffic
Well, after the phenomenal increase in population in vehicular traffic has resulted in congestion and traffic jams on major roads of country due to which commuters face inconvenience and difficulties such as consumption of excess fuel and time, environmental pollution and accidents, etc. That is why our Local and federal Government Department intends to develop the Sukkur Hyderabad Motorway. Project which will facilitate thousands of commuters and dodging the traffic by launching the largest transport project in Pakistan.
This project was announced by the Prime Minister Imran Khan in April 2021 as part of a “historic development package” for Sindh.
About Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif laid the foundation stone of the Sukkur-Hyderabad motorway (M-6) during a ceremony in Sukkur.
It is a mega project of the National Highway Authority (NHA), Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway (M6), would be completed in a record time of 30 months and it would be constructed according to international standards.
It is the six-lane motorway will comprise 15 interchanges, a large bridge over the Indus river, 82 bridges over canals, 19 underpass bridges, six flyovers, and 10 service areas.
The M-6 will pass through the districts of Jamshoro, Hyderabad, Matiari, Benazirabad, Nowshero Feroze, Khairpur, and Sukkur. Service areas and rest areas will be provided at every 50 km on both sides of the highway.
The 306-km-long M-6 will be completed with Rs 307 billion within 30 months as per international standards. The M-6 portion will complete the North-South Motorway Corridor, also known as the Karachi-Peshawar motorway, and will interconnect major cities of the country. The project will create around 25,000 jobs.
The construction of M-6 was a long-standing demand of the people of Sindh, which was fulfilled during the current democratic government.
Well, the construction and expansion of national highways were at the top of the priorities of the government. NHA was encouraging private sector involvement in the construction of structures and M-6 will also be constructed on a public-private partnership.
The speed of economic and social development will increase by providing new employment opportunities in the areas through which M-6 will be constructed.
The prominent feature of this highway is to provide the fastest transport facility according to international standards between Hyderabad and Sukkur. Also the agricultural commodities will get access to the markets of the entire region easily. The Sukkur-Hyderabad section of the M6 motorway has been at the center of a land scam case. But now all the scan cases are resolved and the construction has been started of the project.
